CHILD SUPPORT

In California child support is determined by formula. The formula establishes what is presumptively the minimum child support payable by one of the parents. The courts have authority to vary from the child support formula, however, they rarely vary from the child support calculation. The formula is rather complex with some redundant factors and therefore judges and attorneys universally use a computer program to make the calculation.
